Just east of the Nesbit or
Sheffield farm, John Beckwith Sr. and John
Beckwith Jr. became large land owners. John Beckwith Sr. received
as his original draught the one-share farm lot, No. 8. The
half-share lot No. 9 draughted to Solomon Parish, No. 1 in Division 14,
draughted by Benjamin Congdon, and No. 2 beside it, draughted by
Laurania Ackerly were quickly added. On the east of the senior
Beckwith's first lot Ethan Pratt received Lot No. 6 which he sold to
Benjamin Reynolds, after which the records are blank as to the
ownership. This could have become a part of the Beckwith holdings
and thus lost its identity when the Beckwith property was fragmented
later. The Westhaver property was a part of this Beckwith
land. For many years it was known as the Peter Pineo place, not
the Deputy Provost Master of that name, but a younger man. In
later life Pineo sold various parts of his land from time to time, John
T. Newcomb being the chief buyer. This part was sold by Newcomb
in 1862 - Book 25, page 380, to Ezra Reid for £500, (the
Nova
Scotia pound being valued at $4.00). In fairly rapid sequence
with the bounds unchanged, ownership passed from William A. Reid to
Delancy Sheffield, to Edwin S. Ellis for $1200, to Andrew Boyle, to
James MacRae in 1884, Book 48, page 567, for $1800. MacRae and
then Westhaver were relatively long time owners.
